COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITIES

COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITIES is a political subdivision which is enabled by the citizens of Lincoln County to provide and/or contract for services for individuals with mental retardation and/or developmental disabilities. The board is comprised of nine members who are appointed by the County Commission.

COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITIES currently provides an array of services as well as contracts for services. The Agency directly provides the following services and supports: Community & Employment Services, Residential Services and Case Management.

The overall goals of our agency are as follows:

  1. To include people with disabilities into the community.
  2. To employ and develop quality staff.
  3. To educate the public about available services and to educate the public about individuals who have developmental disabilities.
  4. To develop an array of services and a variety of funding sources.

COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITIES is nationally accredited by CARF the Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission for the following services:

WHAT IS A DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY?

The State of Missouri defines Developmental Disability as, a disability:

  1. Which is attributable to:
    1. Mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, head injury or autism, or a learning disability related to a brain dysfunction; or
    2. Any other mental or physical impairment or combination of mental or physical impairments; and
  2. Is manifested before the person attains age twenty-two; and
  3. Is likely to continue indefinitely; and
  4. Results in substantial functional limitations in two or more of the following activities:
    1. Self care;
    2. Receptive and expressive language development and use;
    3. Learning;
    4. Self-direction;
    5. Capacity for independent living or economic self-sufficiency;
    6. Mobility; and
  5. Reflects the person's need for a combination and sequence of special, interdisciplinary, or generic care, habilitation or other services which may be of lifelong or extended duration and are individually planned and coordinated.
